Happiness
1) The first whiff of coffee in the morning, reminding you that work will not entirely ruin your day.
2) Pretending like you are malnourished at Trader Joe’s and buying everything you want to eat without caring.
3) Good-morning kisses.
4) Seeing the Metro arrive and realizing that there are maybe 5 less people on it than yesterday. I’ll take what I can get.
5) The smile of a stranger.
6) Coming up the escalator from the Metro and remembering that you live in a beautiful city with beautiful architecture.
And, because we are being real here: what would make me happier
1) Having the entire Metro system to myself every morning. Or having a private driver. Either one.
2) If all bugs would be perfectly content to stay outside where they belong.
3) If someone came around every half hour at work with a plate of assorted cookies.
4) And if those cookies were delicious and calorie free.
But I guess I really don’t need that second list to happen, because then I would have no character or discipline in my life. And we all need that. Right? It is what’s best. I go to work every day for those very reasons. And because I get a paycheck but, whatevs.
What makes you happy? What would make you happier? (Let’s not dwell on the second list that long, okay?)
*Photo: Yes. I am that girl who is a perpetual tourist and cannot stop taking pictures of the Capitol. I walk by it every morning and I just haven't started taking it for granted yet. Sue me.
that's like me in salzburg, taking pictures in front of the fortress every time i go. which is why i have 6,023 photos of me in front of the fortress/river/altstadt, etc.

ReplyDeleteThis is so Jenny... paycheck is secondary to work, because work teaches us stuff. Hooray for good morning kisses! That's something that makes me happy... and Baby Alice.
