Good morning, Supreme Court

This morning when my alarm went off at 6:00, the only thing that got me into my tennis shoes and bounding down the front steps before the sun had risen, was my desire to prove to myself that I am a motivated person.

I was prepared to stay in bed and read, or possibly fall back asleep for an hour, until the thought occurred to me that I might be losing drive and motivation to be productive in the mornings. Whether or not that was a rational fear really doesn't matter at this point. The moment I stepped outside and felt the cool breeze against my skin, I made solumn vows of doing this more often.

DC is magical in the morning. And as I was bending over my tennis shoes and tying my laces I told myself, "I'll just walk to the Supreme Court and back." And then it hit me how cool my walking path is. The JenEric honeycomb is just outside of DC, so I only have 7 more weeks left of being minutes away from national monuments...

This is so true: No human being believes that any other human being has a right to be in bed when he himself is up.  ~Robert Lynd

This made me laugh: Early morning cheerfulness can be extremely obnoxious.  ~William Feather

This made me mock the former quote: You can only come to the morning through the shadows.  ~J.R.R. Tolkien

What gets you up in the morning?
(Look at the moon in the picture on the far left!! I stopped in my tracks when I saw it.)

  1. My husband wakes me up and starts my shower so I can lay in bed while the water gets warm. After a few minutes I get up and he goes back to sleep. I have to work at 7:30 and he doesn't have to work until 9!
He is the reason I get up in the morning!

  2. Alex, your husband is so sweet! Those extra minutes in the morning are so valuable. Jennifer, can you believe it is so soon??? Or far away. I go back and forth on that one.

  3. Are you moving out of D.C? I've been there only twice but I did always get a pretty good vibe from the city. The pictures you posted here are lovely (especially the one with the moon!) I also so agree about waking up in the morning ... I always feel amazing when I force myself to do it, but in general just CANNOT get myself out of bed early when I don't need to be. Also, completely agree with Mr. Robert Lynd ... so unfair!

  4. Well, we are technically moving out of the city, but barely. We will still be in the DC area, or so I like to comfort myself. I just won't be within walking distance of so many of my favorite DC places! But that's okay. I love Virginia too. Getting up earlier is something I want to continue doing--but you are right, it is a trying experience at times. When I am dying though, I don't think one of my regrets will be "not sleeping in more often". Who can say for sure though? :)

  5. "Early morning cheerfulness can be extremely obnoxious" and never fully understood by some. :) I want to love mornings like I want to love coffee. I still can't muster a like. Maybe someday... you make it look appealing.
