Do yourself a favor: Apple Cider Vinegar

My friends, while coconut oil may be my top food hero, apple cider vinegar is probably a close second. Apple cider vinegar is an all-natural remedy for just about everything. No, really. For one thing, it helps the body maintain a healthy alkaline pH level, which means that drinking it can help boost your energy by helping your body maintain the equilibrium it tries so hard to achieve. So you might as well help it out.

I recently took a bath with a cup of apple cider vinegar mixed in to help get rid of a nasty sore throat, and while I don't want to sound like a nut: it kind of helped. Coconut oil and apple cider vinegar are both wonderful agents for drawing out toxins.

Want to know some cool things about apple cider vinegar? Read this.

People swear by apple cider vinegar. In my own experience, I have found that using equal parts ACV and water as a skin toner have had wonderful effects on my skin--specifically, making my pores smaller. (I told you about it, remember?) So naturally, I wanted to know what taking it internally would do for me.

I began taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 8 ounces of water, twice a day. I read about all of the benefits, and then decided to forget about them so I could give an unbiased report on the results. I noticed two things: my cold/sore throat was going away, and my clothes were a little bit looser. So naturally I kept reading, and kept drinking (still talking about ACV...just to be clear).

These days, I take about four tablespoons in 16 ounces of water, and sip on it throughout the day. I am not sick anymore, but since I have a daily problem of never bringing enough food with me to work, this little habit has really helped keep my energy level up, and satiate my appetite until I get home (it naturally stifles hunger, and aids with digestion, so drinking it before meals is a great idea!).

Although the taste may take some getting used to, I am finding that it gets better the more I drink it. So, do you drink? Will you try it? I kind of want to buy it by the gallon.
Edit: Thanks, Amanda, for reminding me to include this important information: While apple cider vinegar is super inexepensive at about $3.50 a bottle, it is important to buy the right stuff. It needs to include what is called "the mother" (it gives the liquid a kind of "cob-webby" look when held up to the light), or else the effects are not the same. Don't bother with it unless it has a mom! Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar is great.

P.S. I broke down and created a facebook page for Jeneric Generation and if you wanted to "like" it, I certainly wouldn't hold you back. I am hoping it becomes a great little place to communicate, especially with non-bloggers who are not able to comment on the blog. Thank you!

I love this health series you're doing this week. I've been hearing so much about coconut oil lately that I decided to give in and see what the fuss is all about. I've used apple cider vinegar before, but only sparingly. I'm thinking I might incorporate it a little more into my daily routine. It's so inexpensive too, which makes it doubly appealing.

It's important to mention that it does matter what kind of apple cider vinegar you drink. Braggs or homemade is best. The cheap stuff at the grocery is not the same :)

THANK YOU, Amanda. :) I meant to include that crucial bit of info originally. I just added the info to the post.

Thanks, Jillian! You will have to tell me how coconut oil works out for you. If you ever need ideas on what to use it for, I'm your girl. :-P

I was going to mention this on your last post about coconut oil. I've been reading a lot about it and have ordered some apple cider vinegar...I'm pretty sure it's the cure all. My mom swears by it. :)

I've been hearing a lot about apple cider vinegar lately, but it's the taste and smell that stops me from wanting to use it. Strong smells tend to make me gag really easily....so if it smells as strong as I've heard from some people, it would take some major "mind over matter" concentration for me to handle it. :P If I do decide to try it, though, I'll make sure to get the Braggs kind!

Not sure if it would compare, but i know I've heard of acv PILLS so you don't have to actually drink it. I know my local health food store carried it for a while.
