Last weekend, Eric and I drove to North Carolina to visit my brother and his family. It is always such a treat to spend time with my brother, sister-in-law, and absolutely adorable nieces.
Have I mentioned that Eric is a photographer? Maybe it is almost impossible to capture the sweetness of these little lives in pictures, but I think these come pretty close. Lydia is three and Sophia will be two in May.
Lydia says things like "otherwise", "quite a lot", and "Look at my little sister! Isn't she cute?" She also has an uncanny ability to memorize children's books in a matter of days and "reads" them to Soph.
Sophia scrunches up her face when you ask her to smile for the camera, calls her sister "La-ya", and likes to point out birds, squirrels, and the moon. Lydia is quick to kindly and respectfully challenge Sophia if she doesn't really think there is a squirrel out the window.
Stewart and Molly are also doing a lot of cute things these days, too. But I'll just stick to talking about their kids.
The majority of our visit is usually spent reading the same few books over and over to a very attentive audience, and we love it. We also greatly enjoy the grown up conversation portion of the weekend, too. Here are just a few photos:

These last two are of Lydia holding up pictures of Eric and me post-"fat booth". Maybe I am the only person with the sense of humor of a five-year-old....but that iphone app is pretty darn amusing. Clearly, Lydia thinks it's funny to see Uncle Eric and Aunt Jenny with 50+ added pounds. For us, it's just good incentive not to always keep cookie butter in supply.
Happy weekend! I will be going to brunch with good friends at my favorite restaurant in DC, and then Eric and I are planning on doing a little more thrifting. Yay yay yay for this weather!!
An incentive to not keep cookie butter in constant supply is a very good one. That stuff is addictive beyond belief. Such adorable little faces, your nieces sound beyond precious.
ReplyDeletei love eric's photos. they are "quality photos", if you know what i mean. but really, i have always loved looking at the pictures he takes. of course, it doesn't hurt that his subjects are often the most beautiful children on the planet.
ReplyDeleteJennifer's quality comment.
ReplyDeleteOh my word, I am so jealous. Oh, they're just so sweet! I love that Lydia will "challenge" Sophia in making sure there IS a squirrel out there. They're growing too fast!
