Abbey Road on the River

This weekend, Eric and I celebrated the Beatles and everything they stand for at the National Harbor in Maryland. I will admit that I couldn't sing an entire Beatles song all the way through until college, so all you life-long Beatles fans (*cough*) can disregard anything I have to say from here on out because what do I really know? Actually, a lot. Thank you very much. Thanks to that guy in the dark round glasses up there, I know way more about the Beatles than I ever thought I would.

I should also mention now that in college, it came to my attention one day through self-enlightenment that I should know about the Beatles and that I should know more of their music. So, I educated myself. Then I met Eric a few years later and it paid off because I am pretty sure we are getting married next month because when he drove me back to my house aftter those first few dates, I sang harmony to the tunes that were streaming through the speakers. And he took note. That's right: we fell in love to the Beatles.

He has been a fan his whole life and he reads books, watches documentaries, and knows every fun fact there is to know about them. So you can poke fun at me and have a good laugh at my Johnny-come-lately tendencies, but you can't laugh at him!

Anyway, the festival was a blast and hearing the same song three times in one hour never got old. My favorite band was the last one we saw, which played the entire Abbey Road album....which includes such beauties as "Oh! Darling" and "Octopus's Garden". And let us not forget "Maxwell's Silver Hammer".

Perhaps now is a good time to mention that I may or may not have visited Abbey Road a couple of years ago....(again, this person was involved). I owe a lot to the Beatles. Eric and I owe a lot to the Beatles. What have the Beatles done for you?

  2. I love love love the Beatles too! Like you, I discovered them in college and have never looked back. They are the most insightful, prolific and inspiring musicians ever...hands down! I saw Paul McCartney in San Jose, CA on his US tour a few years ago and it is one of my most cherished memories! I waited outside of his hotel for eight hours the day of his concert (yes, I'm a crazy stalker lady) and when he came out I was in the front of the crowd. He was literally two feet away and I was lucky enough to get a smile and wave. I will die a happy woman!

    Anyhow! Love this post!

  3. Paul McCartney smiled at you???? I think Eric might be more jealous than I am.

They ARE inspiring! And just pondering their impact on the world is kind of crazy...

  4. I'm a diehard, nearly lifelong Beatles fan. I've seen Paul McCartney in concert, twice. My Tumblr is named for John Lennon. I have 4 different pieces of art in my room with at least one Beatle on them. In college my other diehard Beatles friend and I wrote "retro reviews" of their solo albums for the Arts & Style section (of which I was the editor) and then finished the series by reviewing Let it Be. There's a million more things I could site. And no, I'm not going to judge your late coming to the Beatles fandom, except to say Welcome! To know the Beatles is to love the Beatles. This festival must have been incredible! And how jealous am I about your trip to Abbey Road? A LOT. England is my dream trip, mostly because I see pictures of London and feel like I would be really happy there and I love the British but also so I can go to Liverpool and do every Beatles related thing imaginable. Sorry for the long comment I get very excited when discussing The Beatles!
